Recreation/Respite Program  for
Youngsters on the Autism Spectrum

Family Counseling Services currently has openings
in our recreation/respite program for youngsters 6 – 13
who are on the autism spectrum.
 The program gives participants the opportunity to make
friends as they engage in a wide array of physical activities,
such as trampoline and balance beam, or join others
in games and crafts.
  Siblings are invited to accompany their brother(s) or sister(s).
 Parents, likewise, are invited to remain with their children,
 or they may use the time for respite.

Where: Kidnastics – Frowein Boulevard, Center Moriches
When: Two Sundays per month
Time: 10:30 A.M. – noon
Cost: free

Kulanu offers 4 great recreation programs!

· SKIP (Saturday Kulanu Inclusion Program)
This is a 2-3 hour afternoon recreation program on
designated Saturdays. Shadows from the community
 and peers help create this program to be inclusive.
All participants must be screened first.

· RAP (Recreation Adolescent Program)
Monday –Thursdays 4-6:15. Programing includes
karaoke, yoga, cooking, sports, dance, art, etc.

· Sunday recreation program 9-12:00 September-May.
Program includes art, adaptive sports, dance, movement etc.

· On Common Ground Café.
This is a Saturday night program that is co-sponsored with Kulanu and local public and private schools to provide entertainment on designated Saturday evenings.

JCC of the Greater Five Towns Receives
Reimbursement Grant from OPWDD

The JCC has received a reimbursement grant from the
Family Support Services Department of the New York State Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).

Awarded for residents of Nassau County, this coveted grant
 will allow the JCC to reimburse individuals with special
 needs up to $1,000 for specific out of pocket expenses
that are not normally covered by insurance.

YAI/National Institute for People with Disabilities is pleased
 to announce that it is currently accepting applications for
 their Independent Living Program. This program is a 24 week program serving 8-10 individuals who currently reside with
their families in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

  The individuals must meet the criteria for OPWDD eligibility, be on the NYCARES Waitlist and have a diagnosis on
the Autism Spectrum.
This program promotes self-determination and independent community living for individuals with IDD.
 The program's curriculum is designed to help individuals acquire the skills needed to successfully live on their own.
